A life for animals and pictures
Born in Saxony, Axel Gebauer wanted to be a zoo director from the age of 12 - and became one: after studying biology, the zoologist took over the management of Görlitz Zoo. Research and film trips have taken him to Antarctica, China, Russia, India, Nepal, Bhutan and the USA. He has published over 90 scientific articles on wild animals in Antarctica, Tibet and Germany. He has been travelling with his camera since 1975 and finally turned his hobby into a profession: Axel Gebauer has been working as a freelance wildlife photographer and filmmaker since 2011. In the meantime, he has made three of his own wildlife documentaries about Red pandas, Red deers and wild animals in Germany.
